JAY JAMES is a British Recording Artist and Songwriter who shot to widespread commercial fame
on The X Factor in 2014. A firm favourite from his first audition, Jay captured the imagination of the
Country with his distinctive voice, stunning performances and unique background.
During the show, Simon Cowell described Jay as ‘Amazing’, ’Incredible’ & ‘genius’ for his
unforgettable, creative renditions of many different performances throughout the competition. ’500
Miles’ (Proclaimers) performed by Jay in Week 2 became the first ever X Factor live performance
to chart in the Top 10 of iTunes at No7, his version also led to be the inspiration for Pixie Lott & the
Proclaimers themselves during a Live performance at the 2014 Nation Television Awards.
On completion of the competition, the music mogul revealed that Jay was in fact his predicted
winner and whilst comparing strong similarities to Ella Henderson’s shock exit in the same week as
Jay two years previous, Simon urged him to return to the studio immediately and follow similar
footsteps in getting back to his own original music.
Jay went on to dazzle audiences on The X Factor Live Tour, playing to over 300,00 people across
the biggest arenas and venues in the UK and Ireland. Sitting amongst many A-list Hollywood stars,
In the Summer of 2015, Welsh born Jay James was voted the 10th Hunkiest Man in the World by
Heat/FHM magazine in their annual poll Top 100.
With a strong focus around finishing album 2, Jay continues to be in popular demand by some of
the biggest and most prestige brands and high profile events in the UK.
From performing to electric crowds of 81,000 people at Twickenham Stadium to wowing huge
audiences at the British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone.
With his charming and charismatic personality, outside of his singing career, Jay is known as a

creative & visual director, Jay is an incredibly confident and competent presenter, DJ, public

As his unique story tells, Jay was a former Royal Navy Physical Training Instructor (Fitness
Instructor) from Saundersfoot in South West Wales before falling accidentally into music when he
became badly injured playing representative Sport. Whilst on sick leave, Jay positively decided to
turn his focus into learning to play a guitar which he had purchased as a ‘lighthearted, drunken bet’
three months previous.
After joining the Military from the tender age of 16, Jay, as his reports show was often described as
‘exceptional’ and from being tipped for early promotions at every stage of his career, the ’Model’
Military man and leader was also nominated for an award for his ‘outstanding contribution towards
the Royal Navy Physical Training branch’. Jay respectfully served his Country for nearly 10 years
before fate decided to uncover, a love of music and what seemed a genuine talent for expressing
himself within it.
A determined character, Jay worked the music scene hard before finding a break in topping an
online interactive chart for a period of six weeks. From gaining National press attention from it, Jay
was placed on the Royal Navy Role Model Scheme and awarded a career break to pursue his new
musical ambition and talents. He became the first and only ever musician to be awarded this by the
Royal Navy and less than six months later, he was scouted and signed by Decca Records,
Universal ‘as an Artist’ & Bug Music, Sony BMG as a ’Songwriter’.
After collaborating and working with some of the biggest writers and producers in the music world
and a two year period of focused writing and recording between London, New York and LA,
Jay released his critically acclaimed debut album Play It By Heart in the summer of 2012,
featuring collaborations with the likes of John Legend & super producer, Malay (Frank Ocean, Zayn
Malik). Debut single ‘Long May They Roll’ hit the No.2 spot in the Radio 1 RnB charts.
Later in 2012, Jay wrote and featured on the song ‘Fly’ by Cinematic, released on Black Butter
Records, which was described by Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Trevor Nelson as a ‘summer anthem’.
After meeting and working with Booker T.Jones (Booker T & The MG’s) on his UK debut. Jay
developed a mentor relationship with the Grammy Lifetime Award Achiever and in the Summer of
2013, Jay was invited by Booker to feature on
his largely anticipated Stax Records return with album ’Sound The Alarm’ featuring other artists
as Anthony Hamilton, Mayer Hawthorne and Estelle. Their song ‘Broken Heart’ became Booker’s
biggest UK radio hit since ‘Green Onions’ and hit No1 on BBC Radio 2’s A-List & remained
playlisted and in the Top 20 Radio Airplay charts for a matter five weeks. According to DJ’s Chris
Evans and Steve Wright, the track became an ‘Instant Classic’ and that Summer, after performing
at The El Rey Theatre in Hollywood LA, Booker introduced Jay to Soul Legend Bill Withers, and
after a period of 10 minutes chat with the Soul Icon, Bill bid a farewell to Jay with the words ‘You
can really sing boy’.
As well as playing and supporting many International artists, as a songwriter Jay has also written &
collaborated with the likes of John Legend, Terry Lewis, Wayne Hector, James Fauntleroy,
Warren Campbell & Nick Jonas to name a few.
