A Nigerian-Geordie with a Cambridge degree, Vick is a multilingual, multi-skilled and multifaceted young presenter making waves in the multi-platform world of broadcast.
This year has seen Vick’s career really flourish. She joined the Global radio family, landing the weekend breakfast show on Capital Xtra, quickly building a national and international listenership. This led to an Urban Music Award nomination for Best Radio Show within two months of bagging the gig. Vick also this year became one of the faces of RedBullTV, spending much of the summer travelling the world presenting the Flugtag series, as well as fronting their large scale live studio global broadcast, Can You Make It? alongside Roman Kemp. Her first TV documentary aired on Halloween, investigating the rise in online horror for Channel 5. The Slenderman Killings was made The Guardian’s Pick Of The Day and garnered an excellent response for her inquisitive and fearless approach in some truly unsettling situations. Building her presence on ITV2, alongside FYI Daily -the entertainment bulletin she writes, presents, produces and edits, reaching an audience of 4.3million a week across ITV2, 3 and 4- Vick was brought on board to host The Hotdesk for the channel this autumn. Meanwhile, coming into her third year at the helm of 4Music’s presenter-led programming, Vick’s warm relationship with its 16-25 audience continues from strength to strength as she fronts shows across the BoxPlus network just about every day, also producing much of her own content for them. Add to this weekly news and entertainment reporting for ITN and hosting a second series of BT Sport’s Street Velodrome, it’s been an incredibly busy time: the culmination of a great deal of hard graft, carefully cultivated ideas, and passion. It began, however, at 19, when Vick spent a year living in Buenos Aires, where she covered Latin American current affairs, arts and culture for The Argentina Independent as their youngest ever journalist. She also wrote for The Argentimes and Time Out Buenos Aires, and it was here that she was snapped up by MTV, beginning her presenting career on entertainment shows for their international channels.
Experience gained reporting for MTV News brought her to the attention of one of the world’s leading news organisations, ITN, where she’s quickly made her mark as a popular on-screen news and entertainment broadcaster, producing, scripting, editing and presenting all her own content. She presents entertainment news bulletins FYI Daily for ITV2 and Access for Channel 5 as well as for ITN Productions’ digital clients, including The Guardian, Telegraph, Huffington Post, Yahoo, aol, msn and more.
Vick is a mainstay face of 4Music, where she has fronted music, showbiz and style shows every day across their Box Plus network for the last 3 years (including The Breakfast Fix, The Hangout, The UK Music Video Chart, Style Click, HotBox and their 2015 festival coverage). She currently presents 4Music’s weekly video rundown, UK Hotlist Breakers, and the BeBox weekly round-up, as well as cutting her teeth on live television as host of popular daily studio show, Trending Live.
In children’s TV, summer 2015 saw Vick take the helm of the all-important Saturday morning slot on The Disney Channel, while in the world of sport she hosted cycling coverage for Channel 4, Eurosport, BT Sport and Sky Sports 2, 3 & 4. After holding her own alongside seasoned sports personalities and anchors, Vick was asked to present her own series, Street Velodrome, returning for a second series this summer on BT Sport. With this ability to seamlessly straddle diverse genres and tackle all manner of subjects, Vick has proved valuable to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, where she’s covered Sunday morning and weekday afternoon slots, discussing current topics of the day. She has contributed as a panellist and talking head on a range of topical news and entertainment shows for ITV, BBC World, Channel 5 and more.
Online, Vick became the face of Vevo’s first ever presenter-led programming, VVV, amassing hundreds of thousands of views, while hits on her ITN interviews are now in the millions. She has interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment with Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake, Harrison Ford and Jennifer Lawrence al falling for her warmth and charm.
Vick has fronted content for brands including Boots, very.co.uk, Virgin Media, Apple, Red Bull and Toyota, and having modelled for labels including ASOS and Collectif, appearing in Elle and Vogue magazines, she has a distinct and effortless style. She drew from this experience in presenting documentary film, That’s Not Me, exploring the use of retouching in fashion, which went on to win the BBC Award for Factual Entertainment at Visions Film Festival, and was nominated for an RTS Award. She also fronted Amnesty International’s ethical fashion campaign and works with human rights and refugee projects in East London. Pro-active in her attitude to content production, and with a finesse when it comes to getting deep into the subjects she’s keen to explore, Vick regularly arms herself with her camera and takes to the streets to produce her own documentary shorts, exploring everything from institutionalised racism in fashion, to Brazilian culture in London, to the impact of exoticism and an unstable currency on how much Argentine steak we eat! With a flair for developing vivid programming ideas from her experiences, interests and passions, Vick has some exciting factual projects in the pipeline.
