Chris grew up in Middlesbrough and served in the Royal Navy before taking his first professional football position at Portsmouth FC in 1975. He spent two years at Portsmouth before moving to Swindon Town. Chris’ 20 year footballing career took him to 11 clubs, the highlight of which was being part of the 1989/90 Championship winning Leeds United team - then managed by Howard Wilkinson.
Having completed his playing career, Chris went into management with Bradford City gaining promotion into the First Division. Most of the side which was assembled by Chris then went onto secure promotion to the Premiership.
In the 1990s Chris got involved in punditry and now has a dedicated following on Sky Sports. Chris’ appearances on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday with Jeff Stelling have become a must-see.
Chris is perhaps is best known for his hard-hitting, often light- hearted analysis of Premier League action from the gantry, making him a household name. He’s also won over legions of fans with his irreverent analysis of top flight football. More recently, Chris has featured in the successful Ladbroke’s advertising campaign, national campaigns for Greene King and Papa Johns. As well as being an Ambassador for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Chris became an Ambassador of the Special Olympics Great Britain and was also one of the runners of the Olympic torch in Doncaster. Chris’ charisma and sense of humour is infectious; he’s known in the industry as a guy who works exceedingly hard and is always ready with a winning smile. In recent years Chris has hosted ITV’s Saturday night prime time show Ninja Warrior, Channel Five daytime chat show Packed Lunch and in December 2020 is launching his second album following on from his Top Ten Christmas hit in 2019.
